Maniac has cast As the World Turns alum Billy Magnussen (ex-Casey Hughes) along with stars like Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

Netflix's mind-bending mini-series Maniac has a great dose of soap opera -- and we're not talking about just the plot. The new drama includes As the World Turns alum Billy Magnussen (ex-Casey Hughes) as part of its cast.

The plot follows two main characters -- Emma Stone as Annie Landsberg and Jonah Hill as Owen Milgrim -- who sign up for a drug trial which promises to remove their psychological pain. According to Deadline, Annie's disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and her sister; Owen, the fifth son of wealthy New York industrialists, has struggled his whole life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Neither of the main characters' lives have turned out quite right, and the promise of a new, radical kind of pharmaceutical treatment -- a sequence of pills its inventor, Dr. James K. Mantleray, claims can repair anything about the mind, be it mental illness or heartbreak -- draws them and ten other strangers to the facilities of Neberdine Pharmaceutical and Biotech for a three-day drug trial that will, they're assured, with no complications or side-effects whatsoever, solve all of their problems, permanently

Sally Field stars as Dr. Greta Mantleray, who oversees the drug trial at the center of the show's plot. Her son, Dr. James K. Mantleray (Justin Theroux), is the head scientist in charge of the trial.

It hasn't been revealed yet who Magnussen will play in the series, but he'll likely have a noteworthy part. After all, after starring on ATWT from 2008 to 2010, he went on to appear in major projects like Into the Woods, Game Night, The Divide, and Get Shorty.

Other stars of Maniac include Gabriel Byrne, Julia Garner, Sonoya Mizuno, Sejal Shah, and Alexandra Curran.
